United States to Withdraw 5,000 Troops from Germany

Donald Trump Escalates Trade War with 25% EU Auto Tariffs

US-Germany Tensions Rise Over Iran Conflict and Defence Policy

The United States has announced plans to withdraw around 5,000 troops from Germany, signaling growing tensions within the transatlantic alliance amid disagreements over the Middle East conflict. The Pentagon said the withdrawal will take place over the next six to twelve months following a review of military deployments in Europe.

The move comes alongside escalating trade tensions, as US President Donald Trump confirmed plans to raise tariffs on European Union vehicles to 25%, accusing the European Union of failing to comply with a previous trade agreement. Germany, a major exporter of automobiles, is expected to be among the most affected.

Relations have further deteriorated due to public exchanges between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the handling of Iran. Trump has repeatedly urged Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defence, while criticizing German leadership and trade practices, deepening divisions between the longstanding allies.
